Mr. Enck Seventh Grade Social Studies Classroom Policies
Welcome to seventh grade Social Studies! It is my sincere desire for everyone to enjoy the upcoming semester. My goal is to make your seventh grade social studies experience as enjoyable and effective as possible. I strive to make my classroom a safe and comfortable environment for everyone, including all students, teachers, staff members, and administrators. To ensure the success of all students in my classroom I expect EVERYONE to be respectful, responsible, and courteous. Discipline All school rules apply and will be enforced in my classroom. Failure to comply with the school rules will result in the following discipline steps:
Warning
T.O.S. Slip
Parent Contact
Detention
Referral to Administration
Curriculum This semester in social studies we will be studying the historic, geographic, economic, political, and social systems of the medieval world (476-1453 C.E.) with direct focus on the following areas:
The Splitting and Fall of the Roman Empire
Europe in the Early Medieval World
Middle East in the Early Medieval World
The Crusades Change the World
Medieval Africa
Medieval Asia
Medieval Civilizations of the Americas
Grades All grades will be based on a total point system. Each assignment will have a specific point value that is relevant to the item being graded. Items that will be graded include, but are not limited to:
Class Work
Homework
Test/Quizzes
In-class/Out-of-class projects
Grading Late or Missing Work Students are expected to turn in completed assignments at the beginning of class. ALL late work will automatically receive half credit, NO EXCEPTIONS! For example, if a project is worth 100 points but is turned in after the beginning of class on the due date the best grade the student can receive on this assignment is a 50/100. Students that are absent from class will have five days to make up all missed work. Students are responsible for gathering and turning in all missed work on time!
NOTE: All missing work will receive a 25%. Once the student turns in the missing work, the late work policy will be used.
Supplies** All students are expected to come to class on time and to be prepared for the period. Students will be required to have the following materials everyday:
Pen, Pencil, and Highlighter
Marble Notebook or Spiral Notebook
Binder (this can be a separate section in any binder)
Classroom Website I have created a website for our 7th grade Medieval World History class. Anyone with internet access will be able to view the website by going to http://encksmedievalhistory.wikispaces.com/ or by viewing Mr. Enck’s personal page on Governor Thomas Johnson Middle School’s website at http://gtjms.sites.fcps.org/. I will be posting the daily objectives and lesson overviews, assignments/homework, new vocabulary words, classroom worksheets, project directions, study guides, and other important information on the website. I encourage all students and parents/guardians to check our website on a daily basis. Please let me know if you have any questions pertaining to the website.
